Ilham Zakiyev is one of the most inspirational figures in Azerbaijani sport. Born in Sumqayit in 1980, he lost his sight during military service but later found a new purpose in judo.

He went on to become one of the most successful Paralympic judokas in the world, winning gold medals at the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. Over the course of his career he also won multiple world and European titles.

Zakiyev is widely respected not only for his sporting achievements but also for his personal story of resilience, determination and leadership.
